Terms of use
The terms for using openproofing.org, the website of the Open Proofing Foundation. Last updated November 2, 2026.
About these terms
These terms apply to openproofing.org, run by the Open Proofing Foundation, a Washington nonprofit corporation organized as a business league under section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code. By using the website you agree to them.
What the website is
The website describes the Foundation's work: its proofs, rate card, specifications, plans and governance. It is information, not legal, compliance or other professional advice. Whether a combination of checks meets a regulation or an assurance level is for the organization operating the proofing and its assessors to decide.
Commitments and drafts
Some things the website describes are commitments the Foundation has made and not yet delivered, and the website says so where they appear. Specifications marked Draft can change before they are approved.
Rates
The rates on the website are the Foundation's published rates and can change. Registries set their own wholesale prices. Using a registry route will require membership and the agreements each registry requires; those agreements, not this website, govern that use.
Vendors' published prices
The price comparison quotes each vendor's own public pricing page as it read on the date shown, with a link. Those prices belong to the vendors and can change, and the vendor's page is the authority. The Foundation does not endorse or vouch for any vendor. Names and marks belong to their owners.
Using the website
Use the website lawfully. Do not try to disrupt it, to gain access to systems or data you are not authorized to use, or to use it to spread harmful code.
Content
The website's text, design and logo belong to the Foundation. The Foundation intends its specifications to be open and royalty-free; the license for each will be published with its release. You may link to any page.
Links to other websites
Links to other websites are for convenience. The Foundation is not responsible for their content or practices.
No warranty
The website and everything on it are provided as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, the Foundation is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from use of the website or reliance on its content.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Changes and contact
When these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them. Questions go to hello@openproofing.org.
